Improved Forest Management (IFM)
“Surface Stewardship: A Generational Legacy.”
My understanding of timber isn’t just academic, it’s rooted in the dirt. Our Founder with cut and managed timber with his father in the pine timber of the Deep South, learning firsthand the sweat and grit required to manage a forest. Today, as a forestland owner and manager myself, I carry that heritage into the forests of the deep south.
I know that healthy, standing timber is the most efficient carbon-capture technology ever devised. Through Sweetgrass, we partner with landowners to implement Improved Forest Management (IFM) protocols that treat the forest as both a legacy and a solution. By shifting from high-intensity harvesting to stewardship-based management, we increase carbon density, protect biodiversity, and restore wildlife habitats.
Why it matters: This isn't just about "protecting" trees; it’s about active management. We turn working forests into high-value carbon sinks, ensuring that the clean air, water, and abundant wildlife I’ve known since my childhood in the woods are preserved for my three sons and the generations to follow.
